Over 300 members from opposition political parties in Nalolo Constituency have defected to the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).
The group of 309 defectors includes former Ukolo Ward Councillor Muimui Lubinda, Ukolo Ward Chairlady Mirriam Poloti, and Makoka Ward Chairman Chinyama Kalimbwe.
Receiving the defectors, Western Province UPND Chairperson and Minister Kapelwa Mbangweta praised their decision to join the ruling party, stating that the UPND is a party for all Zambians and welcoming others who wish to join.
Mr. Mbangweta highlighted President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership, citing transformative policies such as free education, increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations, and expanded social protection programmes as key drivers of national progress.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, former PF Youth Chairman Kumoyo Sishekanu said the Government’s developmental efforts and social programs were the main reasons for their shift in allegiance.
This development was shared in a statement issued to ZNBC News by Western Province UPND Media Team Coordinator Spuki Mulemwa.
